Press
Here you will find further information on press enquiries, requesting image rights from the photo collection, and making audio or video recordings at NIOD. Media enquiries are very welcome. The Communications Department will be happy to help you find the right expert or information, both within and outside NIOD.
NIOD is a national and international centre for interdisciplinary research into the history and societal impact of world wars, large-scale violence and genocides. The institute is a hub in the network of organisations that work on these subjects in the Netherlands and abroad. NIOD also collects, preserves and opens up archives and collections on these subjects, in particular on the Second World War.
Press enquiries
NIOD considers it important to provide social and political debates with reliable knowledge. We therefore welcome requests from the media for expert commentary on historical and topical issues. The Communication department will be pleased to identify the right expert or information at NIOD or beyond.
NIOD’s Communication department can be reached by phone or email for questions from journalists, from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Questions about the photo collection or image rights
For questions about the photo collection or image rights, please contact the WWII Image Bank using the contact form or by email. The WWII Image Bank cannot be contacted by telephone. Please bear in mind that during busy periods, it may take longer to receive a response.
Making audio or video recordings at NIOD
NIOD is housed in a listed building at Herengracht 380. This means that making audio or video recordings at this location is subject to restrictions. As a result, we can only allow audio or video recordings that are related to NIOD’s work and field of expertise.
Additional conditions apply to archival documents. In a number of cases, it is not possible to grant requests for access or to make recordings due to the fragile nature of the material, for example, or to protect the privacy of individuals who may still be alive. Read more about the accessibility of the collection here.
It is thus essential to notify and seek permission from the Communications department to:
- make audio or video recordings at NIOD
- consult the archives for the purpose of research for audio or video recordings
- share information from or images of archival documents in audio or video recordings
Permission can be requested using this form below:
