Opening hours reading room

Monday to Thursday: 10.00-16.30.

Please note: Limited opening hours of archive and library

As of 25 May 2020, you will be able to make limited use of the NIOD archive and library for study and research. Access to the NIOD is initially only by appointment for one or two half-days (10 am-1pm and / or 1:30 pm-4:30pm). There is room for a maximum of ten visitors per half day. Visitors and employees follow the guidelines and advice of RIVM.

In 2020 NIOD is closed on the following days:

  • 5 May
  • 21 May
  • 22 May
  • 1 June
  • 25 December
  • 31 December
  • 1 January 2021

How to reach us

You can easily reach NIOD by public transport. From the train station take tram 1, 2 or 5 and get off at Spui (for up-to-date information visit the website of GVB).

From there it is only about 350 metres by foot. Go in the direction of the Singel and walk through the Wijde Heisteeg to reach the Herengracht.

Our building is accessible to wheelchair users.

Parking spaces near the institute are limited and expensive. The following car parks are within a reasonable distance:

  • Bijenkorf
  • Europarking
  • Museumplein
  • De Kolk
