Veldberaad WO2

The network comprises: the National Committee for 4 and 5 May, the War Graves Foundation, the foundation for museums and memorial centres 40-45, the WO2Net Foundation, the Liberation Route Europe/LRE Foundation, ARQ Centre of Expertise on War, Persecution and Violence, de Coalitie (Theater Na de Dam, In mijn buurt, Kinderherdenking Madurodam, Vrijheidscolleges, Open Joodse Huizen/Huizen van Verzet) and NIOD.

“To convey and present the history of the Second World War in an engaging, truthful and impactful way, with the aim of fostering democratic citizenship, pluralism, mutual solidarity and resilience, and combating anti-Semitism, racism and discrimination whilst promoting justice.” This is the overarching mission of all parties participating in the Veldberaad WO2 network and beyond. This aim underpins the policy objectives of the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.

NIOD functions as an academic centre of expertise within the network, contributing to a reliable historical foundation for Veldberaad WO2’s projects. As such, NIOD stimulates the substantive quality and topicality of the network’s activities. The focus is not only on the Second World War and its aftermath, but also on subsequent and current conflicts.

In the digital magazine WO2 Onderzoek Uitgelicht, NIOD, together with the National Committee for 4 and 5 May, ARQ Centre of Expertise on War, Persecution and Violence, National Monument Camp Vught (representing museums and memorial centres) and WO2Net, shares the latest scientific research findings with the remembrance and commemoration sector and a wider audience. In doing so, the focus is not only on the history of this war and other examples of war and mass violence, but also on memories of the war and on the wider significance of these historical events in the Netherlands and abroad.
