The Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal started on May 3, 1946, to try 28 Japanese for war crimes during the Second World War. The NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies has an important archive on the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal. As part of the Metamorfoze programme this archive will be digitized.
The Tokyo Tribunal archive is one of the most vulnerable collections at the NIOD. Digitization will contribute to the preservation of one of our top-priority collections and will thus be an important step in preserving our archives as a whole.
The project is planned to run until March,2014. During the digitization, the documents cannot be consulted at NIOD.
