Question:

How do I submit a question?

If you have a simple question, for instance about the availability of certain collections or documents, NIOD prefers to be contacted by telephone. In that case, you will learn straight away whether it is worth your while to visit us or whether you should send us your question in writing. More extensive and substantive questions can be submitted through the contact form. Before contacting the Institute, we recommend consulting the Frequently Asked Questions section of our website, which contains quick answers to many questions.

Questions submitted to the institute in writing can sometimes be answered by referring you to the institute's reading room or to another institute. If a request leads to an extensive and time-consuming investigation, a fee may be charged. You will be informed about this in advance. Generally speaking, not all questions can be answered since not all archives have been preserved in their entirety.
