
Lema Salah is a researcher at the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies.
Lema completed a BA History at Radboud University Nijmegen (2014) followed by a Research Master Historical, Literary & Cultural Studies at RU Nijmegen (2019) along with a specialization of the Research Master Gender Studies at Utrecht University (2019).
Research topics are military studies, military history, gender, conflict studies, international organisations. Other research interests are international relations and peace keeping. As a researcher she is mainly focused on qualitative research and has experience with in-depth interviews, focus groups and policy analyses. In addition to her research, she has extensive teaching experience in both bachelor and master courses; and thesis & internship supervision.
Currently she is affiliated with Radboud University Nijmegen (Political Studies/ Centre for International Conflict – Analysis & Management) and the Netherlands Defense Academy (Military Studies) as a PhD. candidate. Her PhD research is focused on military leadership, organizational culture and employee retention within the Dutch Armed Forces. She conducts her PhD research parttime, combining it with her current research position at NIOD.
