Biography
Mariëtte Wolf is programme leader of the large-scale research programme Independence, decolonization, violence and war in Indonesia, 1945-1950, which NIOD has been conducting since September 2017 in cooperation with the Royal Institute for Language, Land and Ethnology (KITLV) and the Netherlands Institute for Military History (NIMH).
Wolf is a media historian and was director of the Press Museum until 2002. She then worked as an independent exhibition maker and author of historical non-fiction. She obtained her doctorate with a thesis on the history of De Telegraaf (Het geheim van De Telegraaf, geschiedenis van een krant, ('The Secret of De Telegraaf, History of a Newspaper'), Boom 2009). She also chronicled the history of circus theatre Carré (Een plek om lief te hebben, geschiedenis van Carré, ('A Place to Love, a History of Carré'), Boom 2012). From 2014 to September 2017, she was director of the Fonds Bijzondere Journalistieke Projecten ('Fund for Special Journalistic Projects').
