
Marije Spek is Programme Manager of the Expert Centre Restitution (ECR) at the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies. She manages the research team that focuses on individual restitution requests and research projects around the themes of looted art and restitution.
Her expertise lies in developing policy strategies and setting up programme structures for (international) exchange, cooperation and research, including fundraising and communication.
In previous roles, she worked, among others, for the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Prior to starting at NIOD, she was Programme Manager at the Center for Netherlandish Art (CNA) at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
Marije studied Cultural Studies at the University of Amsterdam and obtained a second master's degree in Cultural Management at the University of Antwerp.
