Meta Huijsmans is a PhD Candidate at NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies. She is interested in themes such as the persecution of the Jews, legal redress, collective memory, public history and social history.
Her research focuses on looting and the disenfranchisement of Jews in Zwolle at the time of the Second World War, and post-war legal redress. Her research also addresses the theme of return: the experiences and reactions of surviving citizens of Zwolle who tried to build a new life after the war.
Meta studied Liberal Arts & Sciences with majors in history and philosophy at University College Roosevelt. She subsequently took her Masters degree in Holocaust & Genocide Studies from the University of Amsterdam. She has worked for NIOD since 2021, where her research is supervised by Hinke Piersma and Kees Ribbens. She previously worked for Amsterdam’s Jewish Cultural Quarter.
