Drs. Paul Bakkum
Biography
Paul Bakkum is a PhD candidate at the University of Wuppertal and the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust, and Genocide Studies. Using the NIOD's collection of diaries, he is researching daily life during the occupation of the Netherlands. His research focuses on the changing society and the communities that made it up. How did people respond to the occupier's demands to change their individual and social behavior? And where and from whom did they seek help in times of need created by the occupation? His research focuses on the experience of, and reactions to, the changing occupied society.
Paul studied History (bachelor's) at the University of Amsterdam and completed a master's degree in History of Politics and Society at Utrecht University and a Research Master's in History at the University of Amsterdam.
