The Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Second World War
The series Het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden in de Tweede Wereldoorlog (‘The Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Second World War’), the standard work on the occupation of the Netherlands, was published between 1969 and 1994. De Jong’s series was divided in 12 parts in total, amounting to 26 volumes. The additional thin volume called Bijlagen (‘Appendices’) contained 100 pages of amendments and an index. Finally, volume 14, Reacties (‘Reactions’), was published in 1991, edited by Prof. J.Th.M. Bank and Prof. P. Romijn. Every new part caused a media storm and was discussed and commented on extensively. Never before had such a short period of Dutch history been described in so much detail.

The complete edition can be downloaded per volume in PDF format. We recommend downloading the black & white PDFs, as these files are smaller (fewer MBs) and more suitable for tablets. The PDFs are searchable.
